A minimum of two prenatal visits
The first visit is considered a “getting to know you” visit. There is no charge for this visit. Jennifer will have questions to ask you and you will probably have many questions as well. We are happy to answer all of your questions at this time taking the time that you need. At this first visit you should be able to discover if Jennifer is the right doula for you.
At subsequent visits you will get to know each other even better. You will have the opportunity to meet your back-up doula at this time as well. Of course, you have as much say over your back-up doula as you do your primary doula; we will work to find you a great fit. This is a great time to discuss your birth options and planned comfort measures. The purpose of all visits is to enable your doulas to get to know you better, and to learn about your unique desires for birth. This will provide for better individualized care. You may also find that you are more comfortable at your birth after first getting to know your doulas.
Though prenatal appointments are not a substitution for a complete childbirth class, Jennifer is a professional childbirth educator with years of experience and happy to discuss any questions about birth or fill in any gaps that you may have. Also offered is a several hour full in home private childbirth education course for an additional fee. Doula clients are also entitled to $75 off of any class.
Telephone and email contact
Jennifer and her partner doula is available by telephone 24 hours a day, every day of the year, both prenatally and during the postpartum period for clients. If you have any questions or concerns during that time period you are encouraged to call as you wish. You may also reach us by email or text messaging.
Continuous support at your birth
Your doula will stay with you from the moment you desire a doula to accompany you during your labor, until you are comfortably settled in after the birth of your baby. You are provided with two doulas that rotate in shifts so that you always have a refreshed doula that is at her best. You will easily be your doula's priority. Along with emotional and informational support your doula will be available to guide the birth partner or provide individually a variety of comfort measures including but not limited to, relaxation techniques, massage, aromatherapy, breathing techniques, hydrotherapy, visualization, cold and heat therapy, counter pressure, and beneficial labor positioning. When family members want to be highly involved in the birth process your doula will also benefit you by providing an extra pair of hands. Last but not least, your doulas are there to support your birth partner as they share the birth experience with you.
Help with breastfeeding
For those who wish to breastfeed your doula, along with your health care providers will be available after the birth to help you get breastfeeding started. Then at anytime, your doulas will be available for any breastfeeding questions that you may have.
One Postpartum Visit
Within the first few weeks after your birthing experience Jennifer will want to visit with you in your home to see how you are doing. This is a great time to review your birth and ask any questions that you might have.
The Utah Birth Support doula service charge is $1,100.* (Repeat clients pay only $700). As a retaining fee, $300 is due when you choose Jennifer as your doula. The remaining amount is due by your 37th week of pregnancy. An additional fee of $40 may be charged for births or prenatal visits occurring outside of Salt Lake County.
