“The whole point of woman-centered birth is the knowledge that a woman is the birth power source. She may need, and deserve, help, but in essence, she always had, currently has, and will have the power.” - Heather McCue

Exceptional, Professional Doula Service

Doula service is provided in Salt Lake County by Jennifer Sorensen Whitaker Adv. CD (DONA), Adv. BFW Mentor.  This includes…

  • A minimum of two prenatal visits

The first visit is a “getting to know you” visit and is free of charge. Giving birth is an intimate experience; it’s important to determine if your doula is a good fit for you. This is a great time to ask questions. I’ll have questions for you too. I find these visits enjoyable and expect that by the end of our time together we'll know if we’re a good match. If not, I work with many fantastic doulas in the area and am happy to share referrals. I'd like to be your doula but more than that, I want you with the doula that is best for you.

If we decide to work together, we’ll meet again. At subsequent visits we will get to know each other even better.  Ideally the faces at your birth are those that you find familiar.  This is a great time to discuss your birth options and planned comfort measures. As your doula I want to get to know you and learn about your unique desires for birth.  This provides for better individualized care.  As a professional childbirth educator I am also available to help you on your path of discovery.

  • Contact Availability

I’m available by telephone 24 hours a day, every day of the year, both prenatally and during the postpartum period for my clients.  If you have any questions or concerns during that time period you are encouraged to call/text/email as you wish.

  • Two Doulas for the Price of One

You deserve a refreshed doula that is fully focused and pleased to be by your side no matter the length of your labor. You deserve a doula that is at her best. You also deserve the best doulas. I work with several experienced, high-quality doulas in our area. It is important to me that I share a similar birth philosophy with the doulas that I work with and that you are comfortable with this second doula. You will have the opportunity to meet her and decide if she is also a good fit.  You deserve the best every moment of your labor and birth whether things move quickly or take... a while.

  • Continuous support at your birth

There is no extra fee charged to you for extra hours at your birth. We will happily stay with you from the moment you desire a doula to accompany you during your labor, until you are comfortably settled in after the birth of your baby.  Along with emotional and informational support we are available to guide your birth partner or provide individually a variety of comfort techniques including but not limited to, relaxation techniques, massage, aromatherapy, breathing techniques, hydrotherapy, visualization, cold and heat therapy, counter pressure, and beneficial labor positioning. When family members want to be highly involved in the birth process we may also benefit you by providing an extra pair of hands.

  • Help with Breastfeeding

For those who wish to breastfeed, we will be available along with your health care providers after the birth to help you get breastfeeding started.  Then at anytime, I am available for any breastfeeding questions that you may have.

  • One Postpartum Visit

Within the first few weeks after your birthing experience I’d love to visit with you in your home to see how you are doing.  This is a great time to review your birth and ask any questions that you might have.

  • Personalized Attention

Because I take a very limited amount of clients, I can give my full attention to those that I have. You will not be a number.  I will not have someone else laboring when you are. You are my focus and priority.

  • Fees

The Utah Birth Support doula service charge is $1100* with a discount available for return clients.

$450 is due as a retaining fee upon choosing me as your doula.  The remaining amount is due by your 36th week of pregnancy.

*Utah Birth Support understands that financial circumstances can sometimes cause difficulty in meeting the doula service fees.  It is our firm belief that every woman is entitled to the services of a professional doula regardless of her financial situation.  Payment plans and other arrangements can be made to accommodate every client.

  • Supporting Survivors

I have received additional training in supporting survivors of abuse and trauma. Special birth planning for survivors is available.  Please contact me for more information.

"Jennifer was with me for my first natural birth, which also happened to be my fifth child. I loved the support she gave me before my sweet baby ever arrived. I called a few days before I went into labor frustrated that the baby hadn't arrived yet, and Jennifer helped me find patience and confidence in the process. My last two births with her went so quickly that she nearly missed them, but having her there during the end was priceless. About the time she arrived, I told her I couldn't do it, but her soothing words and practiced techniques helped me have faith in my body. I had three completely drug free and very successful births after four epidural births and I attribute those successes to my wonderful doula. I would recommend Jennifer to anyone searching for a supportive and skilled doula!"

“I let [Jennifer] know what I wanted in the months before my delivery and she was on top of every detail- even the ones I didn't think of... Jennifer was a HUGE help to my husband, who was actually very leery of "doing the doula thing" previously.  She was able to coach him and the two of them together worked as a team to help me get through labor …She really does care about each client and their family individually. My opinion could not be higher of her as a professional, doula, mother, and person.  I just cannot say enough good about my entire experience with her!”
